Inside Michigan MMA with Bobby Adams

By Bobby Adams

The heavy hitters from the Michigan promotions have taken the month off, leaving a space to be filled for the Michigan fight fans. Enter new kids on the block: Fighters Supporting Fighters (FSF) on May 20 at the Birch Run Expo Center. The first show features a lot of lower record pros, but the main and co-main events more than make up for the experience level of the rest of the card.

One of the fights making a lot of noise around the mitten is the match-up between Robert Gidron (2-0), who is fresh off a first round submission of Marcus Maulding, and Dennis Vance (0-0). Vance has shown no lack of confidence for this fight with daily posts aimed at Robert and letting everyone know how hard he is training. Gidron brings a rare mix of power and athleticism into this fight. We will see if all the talk has been in vain or if Vance is the real deal.

The co-main event brings in the No. 2 Welterweight in the state and former WXC and TXC champion Dequan Townsend (15-7) as he takes on Timothy Woods (7-4). Dequan is looking to rebound after suffering two defeats in a row, and the veteran Woods is a good test to get Dequan the luster in his name again. He also gets a shot at his former belt. Woods, a former Bellator MMA fighter, is coming off a no contest in his last fight comes from Team Lloyd Irvin and brings the big show experience to the cage with him.

The main event of this card is a blockbuster fight featuring Carl Deaton lll (12-2) out of the American Top Team as he takes on Vince Murdock (9-3) from Team Alpha Male. Deaton is bringing a four-fight winning streak into the bought with eight of his twelve wins coming by submission. Deaton is going to be looking to end this fight on the ground. Murdock is coming off a great win at King of the Cage over Aurtan Daley. Vince brings high output, and will look to overwhelm Deaton early and often. Instead of a belt, these two warriors will be competing for an awesome Spartan helmet statue.
