Inside Michigan MMA with Bobby Adams: WXC 69 Invades Southgate on Friday

by Bobby Adams

Warrior Xtreme Cagefighting will be bringing WXC 69: Illuminate to the Southgate Civic Arena July 14 and they have not pulled any punches with this card as the card is full of stellar matchups with some of the brightest prospects that Michigan has to offer.

If you can’t make it out to the event it will be available on FITE TV for $14.95

WXC 69 is headlined by a Flyweight title bout between No. 1 ranked Malcolm Gordon (8-3), and Michael Jordan (3-1). Malcolm will look to rebound from a tough loss in his last fight, but he brings a well rounded fighting style and has proven to be a dangerous fighter anywhere the fight takes place. Jordan brings a high impact striking style that has lead his opponents to make bad decisions and setting him up for three submission wins.

One of the featured fights of the evening is a Featherweight contest between Deven Brown (4-2) and Josh Visel (5-1).

Brown brings high level wrestling to this fight, but showed in his last fight he has power in his hands with a seven second knockout over Trent McGuffin at WXC 66. Visel will be making his Featherweight debut in this fight. He brings some very good submission abilities to this fight with four of his five professional wins coming by submission.

A huge fight in Michigan’s Welterweight division is Dequan Townsend (16-7) as he takes on Willis Black (3-1).

With Townsend’s height at 6-foot-3, he poses a interesting puzzle to solve has he knows how to use it to his advantage, and has tremendous power. However, he does struggles with good wrestlers. In this fight he can silence the critics of that with this fight.

Willis is one of the more athletic Welterweights in the state, and he brings some powerful wrestling techniques that he should be using to his advantage. He does have a lot of power in his hands but his striking is still raw.

The amateur main event will be a fight for Lightweight gold as Mike Glenn (4-1) of Fuse MMA takes on Jesse Smitherman (3-0). This matchup is a classic striker versus grappler match, but Glenn has shown a willingness to stand toe-to-toe if needed.
